Frontier Hotel Las Vegas

Written by opi on August 5, 2008 – 12:52 am -

Frontier Hotel Las Vegas, NV is no longer on the Strip, as it was imploded on November 13, 2007. It has an interesting history that started on October 30, 1942 when it opened its doors for business. At first, it was a nightclub known as Pair-O-Dice in 1930. It became the Ambassador Night Club in 1936 and the ‘91 Club’ in 1939. When it opened in 1942, it was rebuilt as a casino called the Last Frontier. In 1955, it was renamed the New Frontier after undergoing renovations. Visit Frontier for complete details.

Flamingo Hotel Las Vegas

Gangster Bugsy Siegel’s original Vegas hotel became the Flamingo Las Vegas and they still have that fantastic old world style curly pink signage to remind us all how fast this world of pleasure has changed. I personally love the pool scene here at Flamingo and I think for the money this strip front hotel with its tropical big watery play ground is a great value. Visit Flamingo for complete details.

Homesick for Vegas

Written by Jason on July 21, 2008 – 3:59 pm -

Just got back from one of our epic trips around the United States working on my new book describing how a couple can live and travel all over exploring the United States on less than $50 a day, including food, fuel, and a nice clean bed every night.

Got very homesick after being out for a month because it rained so much on the East Coast. Out here in the desert the weather is wonderfully predictable. I missed the smell of gourmet foods cooking at the great restaurants on the strip, missed the poker tables, our church, the great shopping, our hot tub, our house, our friends.

We left Vegas on May 9th 2008 and got back July 16th 2008 after driving 10,112 miles. Main attractions were Bryce Canyon National Park, Capitol Reef National Park, Arches National Park, Florida beaches, Baltimore, Washington DC, Atlanta Georgia, and Virginia Beach. Had we done this trip over the course of 6 months it would have cost about $14 per day in fuel, $6 average per day in parking fees/entrance fees/occasional hotel room stays, leaving $30 a day to spend on our favorite activity when traveling - wining and dining. We sleep in a special custom outfitted van so most of the time there are no hotel costs or problems with lodging.
