Texas WINS Miss USA 2008 Las Vegas

Anticipation was high tonight at the Miss USA pageant in Vegas. The evening started out with all 51 contestants walking out in their swimsuits and then their evening gowns. Judges narrowed down the candidates to the top 15.

Donny and Marie Osmond kept the program rolling with their banter. Judges like Heather Mills and Joey Fatone were interviewed. With every one on pins and needles, the judges then selected the top 10 most beautiful women. The crowd was hootin and hollerin the whole night cheering for their state or daughter. Some people came in groups each holding up a sign or letter of their state.

When it got down to the top 5, Donny and Marie asked each candidate to pick a card with a judges name on it. That judge asked the final question. The top 5 candidates were Miss Pennsylvania, Miss California, Miss Texas, Miss New Jersey and Miss Mississippi. After more eliminations, only 2 remained center stage - Miss Texas and Miss Mississippi. Miss Texas is an entrepreneur with her own businesses and Miss Mississippi used to have a speech impediment when she was young. The runner up was Miss Mississippi and the winner of the Miss USA 2008 pageant was Miss Texas! She seems down to earth, glamourous and intelligent. She will go on to represent Miss USA in the Miss Universe pageant. One minute she’s a candidate and the next she’s a star with body guards.

 

The state of Texas has won this pageant at least 7 times in the past. Miss Texas had a huge fan club in the audience who were rootin for her the whole way.

She made a brief appearance at the after party in Planet Hollywood. Other lovely candidates were there as well as Donny Osmond, Rober Earl, owner of Planet Hollywood and Kelly Carlson from the TV show Nip/Tuck. Champagne, wines, lamb shanks and shrimp were served at the after party for a couple of thousand people.
