New food court at The Orleans Hotel

Written by kelly on August 13, 2009 – 1:12 pm -

For a family friendly hotel we recommend The Orleans Hotel and Casino on Tropicana. It has a lot to offer locals and guests alike. They recently remodeled a portion of the casino to add a new food court with some excellent choices. After the movies my husband was in the mood for pizza and I wanted something a little substantial myself.  So he got his pizza and some delicious seasoned potato chunks at Sbarro and I went to Fuddruckers. I ordered the Buffalo Burger and I was shocked at the size but that didn’t stop me from eating the entire burger. The prices aren’t any different than any other food court either. There is also a Subway and Baskin-Robbins too. In other parts of The Orleans you will find a Seattle Coffee and a Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Of course they have their own restaurants as well which we have found them all to be priced well with quality ingredients and filling portion sizes.

Silverton Casino and Poker Room

Written by Jason on June 7, 2009 – 5:35 pm -

Silverton Hotel and Casino Las Vegas is a good treat for the entire family, complete with the largest Bass Pro Shops store in the world, hundreds of top quality wildlife mounts, massive walk around aquarium, exhibits, great restaurants, plenty of parking, and is located a block off Interstate 15 from California. Very well decorated, clean, efficient, and good food for the price at eavery restaurant except the dinner buffet. It is overpriced and not worth it, though the restaurant itself deserves a walk through as the decor is stunning. I visited today to cover the Poker room. It is well laid out though small, with 4-8 tables going depending on the tournament structure. The Poker room staff was helpful and dealt well, with the room supervisor even walking down to the players club to get two of us signed up for casino memberships. The lighting was poor, it was rather noisy around the room, the seats were too tall, the table was the worst construction and design I have ever played on. If they spent a little money on decent poker tables I would come back especially since if you buy in for $100 between noon and 2 pm they give you $20 FREE!

Harrah’s Casino Las Vegas Overview

Written by Jason on February 2, 2009 – 1:43 pm -

Harrahs has not changed much over the past 2 years having just got back on January 27, 2009. Still a little smoky with lots of slot machines, plenty of traffic and lots of noise. Very rowdy upbeat strip casino where hotel rooms can be had quite affordably. Because Harrahs is located so nicely in the think of things right on the strip and because they have added more bars, clubs and food venues I am recommending them for the frugal smart traveler to Las Vegas. I do not recommend them for poker unless you want to learn on real cheap tables where you will lose about $4 an hour in blind costs. If you are interested in the best poker experience for beginners check out how I won $8,000 + in my first four months of learning how to play.

Orleans Poker Room Review and update

Written by Jason on January 22, 2009 – 7:28 pm -

I visited the Orleans Casino off the strip in Las Vegas the other day. The poker room is as active as always. Very big for a smaller offstrip property and very busy for tournaments if you like the $60 – $110 buy in range. Waitress staff is attentive, fast and polite. The poker room is non-smoking but the surrounding slot areas are not so some smoke drifts in plus there are those on the rail puffing away. I played the $60 buyin for 4,000 in chips and 20 minute blinds which is reasonable but not fantastic. Buffets here are still good for the price and you can get most of them paid for by playing slots about 2 hours a day. Video poker is still popular here though it does not seem to pay off for us. Hotel rooms here are good for the price, staff is active this time of year due to the economy and they jump right into helping you, especially valet which I recommend using. If you eat at the Cafe be prepared to spend about an hour in there as they are slow about everything but the price is so low how can you complain and the food is great here at the Orleans.

Las Vegas’ new M Resort

Written by kelly on January 22, 2009 – 3:15 pm -

Scheduled to open at the beginning of March is the M Resort, Spa and Casino. Las Vegas’ newest hotel casino. It is located at the corner of Las Vegas Blvd. and St. Rose Parkway – 10 miles south of Mandalay Bay – which makes it the southern most casino on the Strip. The M Resort, Spa and Casino will have nine restaurants along with a wine cellar that will have over 120 types of wines for the tasting. I hear that there is also a rooftop restaurant with some fabulous views of the valley too. The resort has just about 400 rooms and large suits with enough property to build about 2,000 more in the future. Even with the futuristic exterior the modern Italian design interior has an easy going and comfortable feel. There will also be a gas station and convenience store on the property. Some even bigger plans are on the drawing board too like a retail center, theater complex, and a production studio for cooking shows. Now that’s what I’m talking about. Can March get here any quicker?
