Insider Secret - You can catch the monorail at the Sahara which will take you all the way down to the MGM Grand or the Deuce bus in front of the casino. The monorail makes a stop at the Las Vegas Convention Center. |
Swing King, Louis Prima and his band were hired in 1954 to perform at the Sahara Hotel And Casino in Las Vegas. At that time, it was one of the earliest lounges on the Strip. His daughter, Lena Prima lives and performs in Vegas. The Sahara was one of the last hotels for Rat Pack shows. For years it was the site of the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon.
Located at the northern most part of the Strip, it is near the Stratosphere Hotel Las Vegas, and within walking distance to the Fashion Show Mall. The monorail stops at the Sahara or you can catch the Deuce bus in front of it. For a change, the parking garage is actually close to the registration desk. But be prepared to wait at the elevator in the parking garage - it's slow.
To the north of the Sahara are the Freemont Street experience and downtown Las Vegas casinos like the Plaza and Fitzgerald. Downtown is a short ride and accessible via Deuce buses. Food, drinks and gaming are less expensive than on the Strip.
The rooms at the Sahara Hotel And Casino in Las Vegas could use some refurbishing. Last renovations were in 2003. But they are clean and maid service changes linens and towels on a daily basis. Upgrade or ask for a room in the Tangiers Tower.
You can have the choice of a king bed or 2 double beds. Rooms come with a table, 2 chairs and a dresser. Prices are very affordable for standard and deluxe rooms. Surprisingly, suites can be just as pricey as suites at the Venetian Las Vegas Hotel and reservation! Bathrooms are a decent size and clean.
Don't expect any coffee makers in the room. You'll have to buy your own or go downstairs to the nearest Starbucks. Internet on the TV is rather slow. Of course rooms on the upper floors will have better views. Nice thing about older hotels is they have windows that open slightly for fresh air. Makes a difference. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Check-in is quick and done with a smile. For affordable prices, check the rates at the Sahara Hotel And Casino in Las Vegas.
