golden steer steakhouse las vegas has 1950's old style Las Vegas charm - by Kelly

Golden Steer Steakhouse Las Vegas

Golden Steer Steakhouse Las Vegas is an infamous restaurant since 1958 located on Sahara and the Las Vegas Strip. We ate at the Golden Steer Steakhouse to celebrate a birthday. Although we have known for years that this restaurant has a good reputation I think that the off-putting exterior was our excuse for not eating here before. That said, our 20 oz. bone-in rib-eyes were thick, juicy, and cooked to our liking. You could really taste the true steak flavor without any special seasonings or butter that other steak restaurants use. As soon as you walk through the doors the bar is in front of you. The ambiance exudes a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The dining areas are decorated in old style, posh-like, 1950's Las Vegas style. Although, some might say the décor is a little tacky with its black and red vinyl booths and chairs and not up to par with the more modernized décor of similar steak restaurants. But you have to remember that the Golden Steer is trying to create an old style Las Vegas ambiance like when the Rat Pack and other famous celebrities and political figures spent their evening hours there. We sat in Mayor Oscar Goodman's booth. Each booth has a nameplate of different celebrity figures, pretty cool.

To go with our steak we ordered the Caesar salad, which is prepared tableside. To me anything prepared tableside adds a little zest to the dining experience. I do not like anchovies but when it comes to a true Caesar dressing I don't believe in altering the true recipe. We could taste just a bit of the anchovies in the dressing but it was not overwhelming. However, you can have them fine-tune the dressing to your liking. The house made croutons were the one of the best we have ever had, a soft crunch with great flavor. We always order the creamed spinach au gratin at another steak house in Las Vegas so of course we wanted to try the Golden Steer's creamed spinach to compare. We did not like this at all. Too sweet. And, it came to the table barely warm and got cold quickly. That was a waste of money. Maybe we should've ordered the large than life-baked potato that they are known for instead. Oh well, maybe next time.

All of the staff members were very friendly and welcoming. The service was attentive without being overbearing. Some staff members have worked for the Golden Steer for 20 plus years. These experience staff members are more accommodating, forgiving and relaxed while trying to make your Golden Steer Steakhouse experience that much more special. And that says a lot about a restaurant and its owners and managers. The dress code is casual, as they understand that many people have been walking The Strip. Reservations are recommended but if you walk in as soon as they open for dinner you shouldn't have any problem being seated right away. Going early provides you with the attention you may desire as well as an extensive yet relaxed history lesson of the Golden Steer Steakhouse.

The restaurant is pricey like any other brand name a la carte steakhouse you might find in Las Vegas. But the charm and history makes for a one-of-a-kind romantic dining experience that shouldn't be missed by both locals and tourist at the Golden Steer Steakhouse Las Vegas.
