hash house a go go twisted farm food in a twisted city - by Kelly

Hash House A Go Go Las Vegas

Hash House A Go Go Las Vegas is a restaurant of massive proportions serving twisted farm food. This basically boils down to great recipes with modern day food flare along with picture perfect plating as high as it is wide. Excuse me, no plates here. Your food comes on oblong platters that when loaded with your food weigh about ten pounds. How these waitresses not only balance pounds of food but place the platter of food down in front of you with only one arm is impressive. No wimps please. Speaking of wimps, our waitress was definitely not a wimp; however, she did have to reposition her hand a couple of times to pick up the platter of food that was not finished to be boxed for takeout. I guess that happens after hours of lifting, poor biceps. The wait staff is just as colorful as the metropolis it is located in. At Hash House you won't see bandaids on earlobes or long sleeves covering up tattoos of the wait staff. Our waitress had a variety of tattoos including one in heavy black ink that read, it is what it is. True.

We arrived about 6 p.m. for dinner and by 7:30ish the restaurant was loud and rambunctious but everybody was having fun. And I thought the music being played over the speakers was better than any music played in the nightclubs on the Strip. Although it was a little difficult to discern with a restaurant packed out with people laughing and talking. That includes us laughing and talking as well. When the four of us get together we are not quiet and at times a bit loud but this is the perfect place for that. Which makes me realize that Hash House a go go is a great place when you want to take the family out for good food without the worry of being too quiet and too civil than a five-year-old could handle.

Insider Secret - This is a very popular restaurant with locals and tourists alike. Therefore, I recommend dining during the non-peak eating hours. This way you will get better service through and through.

The occasion for our get together was a birthday celebration with our friends Kiki and Mark. We split the popular and equally delicious Fried Green Tomato Stack which is alternately layered with their homemade chicken salad and goat cheese. All right, I'm stuffed already. No seriously because they had already brought out double oversized homemade biscuits and honey butter. Although I tried not to indulge in the biscuits I have a problem pushing away the combination of biscuits, butter, and honey. The dinner meals ordered were the All Blue Crab Cakes with butternut squash and veggies on the side. The crab cakes were about the size of my palm times two, which is the way crab cakes should be. The 18-ounce ribeye with all of its sides include a big dollop of pumpkin mashed potatoes looked like a big taste bud approved, artery clogging, chunk of big meat. I could eat those pumpkin mashed potatoes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My husband ordered the Pan-Seared Chicken with fried polenta, porcini mushroom cream, asparagus and griddled mashed potatoes. The chicken was moist and the asparagus was served crispy but not stringy - perfect. We all took our leftovers, so no waste of food on our part.

Hash House A Go Go gets raves on their cocktails too so we ordered some and then some more. It's hard to turn down another round of drinks when they are so good you just want to drink a gallon. For dessert we split the cheesecake, well that's what the menu said. Actually, it was a peanut butter cheesecake with a yummy crunchy crust and I think some caramel or peanut butter syrup drizzeled. I honestly don't remember, until I look at the picture, what the dessert looked like because by the time the waitress put the plate down it was gone is 60 seconds. A blur of a dessert that spidered out in four directions. We were acting like five-year-olds trying not to share and looking like gluttons in the meantime. But as you recall the Hash House is the place for that.

Although we had dinner I have only heard good things about their breakfast menu. My guess is, if you eat breakfast at Hash House a go go then your next meal would be dinner. This would help your budget though if you were vacationing in Las Vegas. Drive about five miles on Sahara Boulevard heading west from the strip and you will end up at Hash House A Go Go Las Vegas.
