Las Vegas Casino Marker Gambling Laws
Markers are small nearly instant loans the casino gives you when you need or want more money. I have been at a blackjack table when things were not going good and having lost $2,000 I decide to request a marker. The pit manager is called over, looks at my records on the computer and since I am a regular in good standing he grants me a $3,000 loan right on the spot. Now I can hope to win back the money I lost using the casinos money. If I do great. If I don't then I now owe $3,000 after having lost my inital $2,000. This enables the casino to win even more money than they already have from you IF you pay them back. Many people don't pay the casino back and skip town. Then the special task force spends about $900 to bus them back to Nevada for prosecution. Not good. So why would you ever ask for a marker? Well I have done quite well when watching a table for 30 minutes and seeing it HOT or paying out to the players I sit down, get a marker, play at a higher amont than I normally would using the casinos money, win $1,000, pay off the marker and leave with my grand of winnings. Foregners are especially likely to skip paying back a marker since US extradiction laws can hardly ever pull someone back within the borders for this particular offense. Millions are lost every year to those residing outside Vegas so the marker leinecy to them is declining. Marker laws in Vegas are completely different than most places in the world. What amounts to a civil dispute nearly everywhere else is classified as a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment in Nevada thanks to the strong will exercised by casinos over law makers. In other words they aren't limited to just suing you (so if you don't have anything they lose) but rather thay can actually prosecute you and you can end up in jail with a felony conviction on your record for life. The state statue basically changes the way markers are viewed and gives special consideration to corporate America over the individuals right in this regard. Instead of a loan markers here are viewed as a check. So an unpaid marker is the same as a bounced check and classified as theft. Vegas casinos do quite well recovering from US citizens because the government established a special unit of the District Attorneys office that allows them to actually KEEP 10% of what they recover. They go after nearly everyone who tries to trump Las Vegas casino marker gambling laws. |
