Insider Secret - Gamble a lot? Have an out of town address? Make sure the casino's know you love golf and anyday now, an invitation to a golf tournament in Vegas could appear in your mailbox. |
Shadow Creek Golf Club is the most exclusive, private golf course in Vegas. You must be a registered guest at one of the MGM Mirage properties to play here. This startling oasis of rolling turf, huge pine trees and lush gardens surrounded by dazzling lakes and ponds has been consistently voted number 1 by golfers. I am not sure how many have played here, since like Wynn Las Vegas Golf it will cost you over $500. Expect to have this golf course pretty much to yourself! The only golfers you are likely to see on this best Las Vegas golf course are celebrities and high rollers.
Reflection Bay is a public course that is part of a $4 billion dollar residential and international resort destination 17 miles from the Strip in Henderson. Built next to a 320-acre lake with over 1.5 miles of fairways Reflection Bay looks like an oasis from the air. From the ground this Jack Nicklaus design feels like a seaside, desert and mountain course all rolled into one. Golf Magazine gave Reflection the honor of top 10 golf courses you can play on.
Wolf Creek is in the fast developing town of Mesquite, 80 miles north of the Strip. It's worth it just to go there and see this best Las Vegas golf course. With its crushed granite bunkers and breathtaking views that never stop, this course is also the mean step-daughter of the USGA. Wolf Creek Golf Course has an appalling rating of 154 at USGA. Which means it is the 3rd toughest course in the country! Don't expect to see any tournaments here; it's too hard of a course for even the pros. When you play make use of the 5 tee boxes. Truly you must play a level suitable for your ability. Arnold Palmer had the honor of designing Wolf Creek.
The Wynn Golf Course at the Wynn is on everyone's must play list. Don't let the green fee of over $500 deter you. Or the fact that you must be staying at the Wynn. Or the fact that Wynn really prefers to use his best Las Vegas golf course for his high rollers only. The Fazio designed course is similar to Shadow Creek, which he and Steve Wynn designed. Both have waterfalls, rivers, rocks and loads of trees. Like having your cake and eating it too, both courses photograph like pinups while playing like champions.
Partnering with Harrah's and Rio, Cascata Golf Course is a desert course that has a 415 foot high waterfall which roars down the mountain and hurls past the clubhouse before becoming part of the course. Sports Illustrated called it 'golf's hidden treasure.' This is not budget golfing but resort golfing at its best. Many holes run downhill from mountain tees.
Want drama? Try Rio Secco's 7th hole. Rising cliffs on either side of this par-4, 418 yard hole carved out of a canyon make it nearly impossible to hit. Then there's the tee shot that must go over a desert below. If you hit the green there are 3 tiers just to get down. But it's great fun and Rees Jones designed this prize. Most of the courses on this list are difficult target courses. Want to get back to when golfing was fun, where you just whack away at wide fairways and generous greens, try Las Vegas National Golf Course before playing a demanding and expensive best Las Vegas golf course.
