frontier hotel las vegas nv sold for $33 million an acre in 2007 - by Kiki

Frontier Hotel Las Vegas NV

Frontier Hotel Las Vegas, NV is no longer on the Strip, as it was imploded on November 13, 2007. It has an interesting history that started on October 30, 1942 when it opened its doors for business. Originally, it was a nightclub known as Pair-O-Dice in 1930. It became the Ambassador Night Club in 1936 and the '91 Club' in 1939. When it opened in 1942, it was rebuilt as a casino and known as the Last Frontier. In 1955, it was renamed the New Frontier after undergoing renovations.

Insider Secret - The Frontier is remembered as having the longest strike by the Culinary Workers Union ever, from September 21, 1991 to February 1, 1998.

It was the second casino to open on the Strip and was situated south of Circus Circus or north of Wynn hotel and the Fashion Show Mall today. Howard Hughes purchased the resort for $14 million in 1967 and called it just the Frontier. 1990 saw the building of the Tower Atrium Tower, but it lasted only for 17 years and was torn down in 1997. Phil Ruffin, the billionaire developer, bought it in 1998 for $165 million and changed the name back to the New Frontier.

In May, 2007 El-Ad Properties purchased it from Phil for $1.2 billion which comes out to $33 million an acre. Currently, you'll see the "Trump International Hotel and Tower" standing tall like a golden pillar on part of that land. Ruffin and Donald Trump partnered to build their luxury condo hotel. El-Ad Properties, owners of the Plaza Hotel in New York City, are building a new hotel casino called "Las Vegas Plaza" in the style of the New York hotel on the property.

In September 1991, the Culinary Workers Union staged one of the longest strikes against the Frontier Hotel Las Vegas, NV. It was not resolved until February 1998. In those 7 years, the Las Vegas Sun reported that 17 of the strikers died, 106 babies were born to picket moms, over 21,000 hotel rooms were built on the Las Vegas Boulevard with another 19,000 under construction and 235 of the 550 strikers had walked the picket lines which was manned 24 hours a day for 7 years.

From 1991 to 1998, Vegas also saw 4 old casinos destroyed and larger, new themed ones built in their place. The Venetian was once the Sands. The Bellagio took over the Dunes. The Hacienda became the Mandalay Bay and the Landmark became a parking lot for the Las Vegas Convention Center. The history books remember the Frontier Hotel Las Vegas, NV as being the casino to host the first Elvis concert in Vegas in 1956. It also saw the last appearance of Diana Ross and the Supremes as a group in 1970. The hotel did not have any permanent shows, but its gaming area was 100,000 square feet and accommodations included 986 rooms. Over 1,000 employees worked to service guests in the Frontier Hotel Las Vegas, NV.
