Insider Secret - If you don't like smelling smoke when you're eating, you'll be happy to know that a law was passed in 2006 in Vegas stating that smoking is not allowed where food is being served. This includes the casinos and it does make a difference. |
You'll be surprised how large the Nine Fine Irishmen is. It has a lower level and upper level with a view of the Las Vegas Strip. It's an elaborate Victorian-style bar where you can truly loose yourself in that old Irish look. There's plenty of stout, ale, beers, lagers and Irish whiskey flowing until 2:45am. When it's time to get rowdy, the dueling pianists will get the party started. Another fine Irish bar with live music is Brendan's Pub in the Orleans.
The menu at Nine Fine Irishmen is definitely Irish with an original Vegas flair. Starters include a sausage pail, crab and spinach dip or honey-baked brie. There's a cabbage soup or seafood chowder. Try the tangy gammon melt sandwich with cured ham and Muenster cheese. My favorite mains are the shepherd's pie and the poached pear pizza. The food is as Irish here as the cuisine is French at Mon Ami Gabi in the Paris.
Gallagher's Steakhouse in the New York Hotel Las Vegas is first-class. They have been refining the art of cooking steaks since 1927 in New York City. Steaks are cooked to perfection and side dishes like lyonnaise potatoes and the creamed spinach are excellent. Service is friendly and attentive.
It's a great place to make an impression on a friend. If you're picky about how want your steak cooked, you'll love Gallagher's. For steak lovers, also try the Delmonico Steakhouse headed by world-famous Emeril Lagasse in the Venetian.
I love the thin-crust, wood-fired pizzas at Il Fornaio in the New York Hotel Las Vegas. Their portions are not huge so you don't overeat and the food is flavorful. Try the eggplant appetizer, the Melanzone Alla Parmigiana layered with smoked Mozzarella. Yummy. Il Fornaio's is easy on the pocket book too. Breakfast is served there as well. If you just want pastries, coffee and baked breads visit Il Fornaio Panatteria.
The Chin Chin Café is another inexpensive favorite. Set in an attractive, modern setting, the chefs like to show off their culinary artistry in exhibition kitchens for you. Their claim to fame is the chicken salad and it's very good. I like the pineapple fried rice and the Dim Sum is very good too - steamed not fried. It has a more traditional menu than Fusia, the Chinese/Pan American restaurant in the Luxor.
When you and your buddies want to really get rowdy and watch the sports game, definitely go to the ESPN Zone and dine in the casual Studio Grill. You'll find an all-American menu with burgers, fries, onion rings and the 'sudden death chocolate' dessert. Dining is always a fun experience at the New York Hotel Las Vegas.
