Insider Secret - Make sure you ask for and pick up the free Funbook. It doubles good values Trop offers its customers, including free casino play. |
Many guests upgrade to the Paradise rooms in the tower. They are happier and they are still going for one of the best prices on the Strip. The rooms are large, clean and have plaster molding and ceiling cornices. Some even have mirrors affixed to the popcorn ceiling. Garden rooms are the oldest but they also can face the 5 acres garden pool area and seem like paradise. You'll find some of the best room deals right on this page.
The Tropicana Hotel Las Vegas is conveniently located at the end of the south Strip, across from the MGM Grand and the Excalibur close to McCarran International Airport. The monorail begins at the MGM Grand; you can catch it there. Valet park your car as it's free and you won't have a long walk through the casino from the parking lot.
Steak is good here. Legends Steak and Seafood is a bargain steakhouse with good, well prepared food. Mizuno's is a Japanese Steakhouse which means appetizers like tofu and sushi. Steaks are prepared teriyaki style if you want it. At the Tuscany Italian Café Gourmet you can create your own pasta dish or order pizza. There's Players Deli and Java Java for quick bites and good coffee. Island Buffet is well-priced and tasty. Dinner includes prime rib and shrimp every night.
See the show that started it all. We're talking about the Folies Bergere. It's a French style revue with topless showgirls wearing fabulous headdresses. Actually the show has singing, Mambo dancing and comedy in it too. A similar show is Jubilee at Bally's. There's also the Extreme Magic Show with monstrous cats and over the top illusions with helicopters, etc.
Interestingly, the Tropicana Hotel Las Vegas probably has one of the best comedy rooms in town called Comedy Stop. You can also find comedy at the Improv at Harrah's. For all of these shows, 2-for-1 discounts are readily available. Check magazines and the Concierge desk.
Visitors return here to play the dollar slots that have 98% payback. They also have blackjack, roulette, craps, Let It Ride, etc. But the casino is small compared to its neighbors like the Mandalay Bay or the Luxor. Comps are good, but make sure to be rated beforehand. The Race and Sports Book is small and hidden away next to a staircase. The poker room is also small with Texas Hold'em being the only game to play. Mostly rookies play here and the rakes can be high at the Tropicana Hotel Las Vegas.
