Bette pulls out all the stops with her new show, The Showgirl Must Go On. Using the largest state-of-the-art screen designed for Celine Dion, Bette blows into Vegas, literally. What begins with a peaceful outdoor desert scene complete with burro walking across the screen suddenly begins a life-size tornado destroying everything in its path including the Strip! It swirls around with a bird's eye view of Caesar's Colosseum where shining in big bright lights you see 'Bette Midler Tonight.' Suddenly the Divine Miss M makes her entrance on stage riding that actual burro and dressed in silver glitz from head to toe. Bette really knows how to make an entrance.
The Bette Midler show is creative, lively, nostalgic and spiced with Miss M's fast repartee of jokes and songs. One of her pronouncements was, her audiences 30 years ago were on drugs, now they are on medication. After walking across the large stage she pants out 'this is like walking to another zip code.' The audience gave her a standing ovation after she belted out the classic song When a Man Loves a Woman.
Bette Midler is joined on stage with 20 talented female dancers, a 13 piece band and her trio sidekicks, the Harlettes, who act as backup singers and dancers. She brings to stage her favorite characterizations including Delores Delago, the wheelchair mermaid and Soph, the oldest living Vegas showgirl.

As Delores Delago, Bette pays tribute to Elvis, Frank and Sammy in a medley of tunes starting with Viva Las Vegas. The tribute ends in clever choreography with the Harlettes and all 20 dancers in mermaid costumes creating Ziegfeld Follies type formations while in their wheelchairs. Bette also has quiet moments in her show. At one point she sits on the edge of the stage picks up her ukulele and sings a solo song without her band. The show ends, not with a huge fanfare blowout, but with Bette singing the song that brought her the 1989 prestigious Record of the Year award, Wind Beneath my Wings.
The after-party was held at Pure nightclub, the most popular club in the country. Walking the red carpet were stars like Brigitte and Nathan Burton, Alan Thicke, choreographer Toni Basil, Meatloaf, Ricki Lake, Lance Bass and Shannon Durig from Hairspray, comedian Rita Rudner performing at Harrah's, Joey Fatone, Siegfried and Roy, Taye Diggs and many more. It's cabaret at its best with Bette Midler.
